Folliculitis barbae is caused by viral or bacterial infections, where pseudofolliculitis is caused by irritation from shaving and ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs, are small, irritated bumps on the skin. They often happen after you shave, when strands of hair grow into the skin. They cause irritation and pimples. They also may cause scarring.
